Description

Wow, I'm FINALLY finished with this! :la: Took what felt like ages. :staretantrum:
This is my entry for :icontrueblueinstitute:'s "Anniversary" contest.

FULL VIEW PLEASE to see all of the detail I put into it! :D

I decided to do all of the "Super" forms of Sonic in the games, 3 for Modern and 3 for Classic. I did not do Werehog since I don't classify him along the same vein of "Super" as the rest. The left, going up, is Modern, Darkspine, and Excalibur; the right, going up, is Classic, Super, and Hyper.

I actually had a bit of fun with this one. I was going to try something non-graphic, but it was no use; I gave in and made it graphic anyway. XD I never did something this elaborate before with digital art, so it was a little long-winded and experimental. I learned a lot of new techniques through this (and even changed the shading style halfway through...)

I tried including my favorite things from all of the years that Sonic has been around; 3 in each corner. With the Wisps, I used Eagle and Frenzy since they were my favorite from their respective games, and Yacker because he was in both. I used the blue World Ring since blue is my favorite color, as well as the fact that it stood for my favorite attribute of "Prayers/Hope". The standard ring is obvious, and the I always loved the collectible Red Star Rings. The Flickies are another obvious one, since they've been around since the original 1991 game (as well as in Lost World.) Now the Chao were my favorite to do, and I just love those little things. It's so sad they haven't been around since SA2. :noes:

The Chaos Emeralds were such a pain to do, took a whole day (and I'm not even 100% satisfied with them - the cyan one turned out the best IMO). D: The line art was just tedious, but not too bad. The blue World Ring's designs were annoying, and I just started to improvise after a while. The background just kind of happened; I thought a mosaic would look cool. the heads weren't too bad, until I got to Hyper and Excalibur (I worked in a reverse-N shape from Classic to Excalibur.) I wanted to capture the epileptic colors of Hyper, so I decided to make him rainbow instead of just a single color (though he isn't all of them at once in the games). The Excalibur was the most annoying thing to do in this whole thing. I totally made up the designs on his helmet; didn't even check to see what they were supposed to look like. :XD: I tried to make it look metallic and shiny, as well as faceted. Now, I'm one of those people that have to put everything on it's own layer; well, I actually got a message in SAI where it said I had too many! I simply deleted my WIP layers (for sketching and such). Once I got to Hyper Sonic, I actually found a new method to conserve on layers, which I will definitely have to incorporate from now on. The problem is that some of it just couldn't be helped since I had so many different opacities and lumin/shade layers. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out! Took a lot out of me, but I will try to make stuff this intricate and such in the future (if I have time.)

Here's the line art:

Made with Paint Tool SAI and GIMP 2.8 (just for part of the border). Has over 200 layers.

This looks amazing. It is great how you included not only the various Sonics, but also the chao, wisps, emeralds, and other critters around the border :D
